Crews battle 3-alarm fire at 472 Pelham Road in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE - A three-alarm fire at a New Rochelle apartment building forced more than 70 residents out of their homes Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 9 a.m. at 472 Pelham Road.

Fire officials say a firefighter and a resident were both hospitalized. It is believed the firefighter suffered a fall from the second floor of the building.

Officials believe 20 of the 60 apartments are unlivable.  The Red Cross has set up a shelter for tenants at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center.
