Crews brave heat to battle brush fire, water main break
Firefighters and utility crews sweated it out in near-100 degree temperatures Wednesday to battle the unexpected when a brush fire broke out and a water main burst.
Flames erupted in the wooded area between Villa Parkway and Route 9W in Highland Falls just before noon. The fire forced the closure of several residential streets as firefighters utilized extra long hoses.
Firefighters are not yet sure what sparked the blaze. No one was injured.
In New Windsor, crews worked in the blistering heat to repair a water main break that left about 50 homes without water for several hours.
