David Diachenko, of Mahopac, killed in crash at Mahopac High School
YONKERS - A Mahopac man is dead after crashing his car into a building at Mahopac High School.
Police say the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. Friday when 19-year-old driver David Diachenko crashed through a fence and slammed into the school building.
Fire officials say Diachenko barreled down Gleneida Boulevard and gained so much momentum, that he crashed into the side of his former school.
Police believe no one else was involved in the crash. Authorities would not say if drugs or alcohol might have played a factor in the incident.
He is survived by his parents, a younger sister and girlfriend.
The school superintendent says grief counselors will be available for students and staff Monday.
The cause of the crash, which damaged 10 classrooms, is under investigation.
