The second week of testimony resumed Monday in the Galleria Mall murder trial. Phillip Grant, 44, is accused of stabbing Connie Russo Carriero, 56, to death at the Galleria Mall parking garage in June because she was white. On Monday, White Plains Detective Rick Lee, who videotaped Grant's confession, was back on the stand as the defense tried to poke holes in his testimony. They want to know why Lee never had the defendant identify the murder weapon at police headquarters. The discussion also focused on whether Grant understood his rights while he was being questioned. Grant, who is a convicted sex offender, is the first person in Westchester to be charged with murder as a hate crime.
