Defense witness testifies in Brancato murder trial
The defense of actor Lillo Brancato presented its case Friday in the actor?s murder trial, calling Brancato?s friend to the stand.
Charlie Magner, of Yonkers, told the jury that Brancato would come to his house every day, asking for pain medications. Magner added that in October 2005, he drove Brancato to the home of Kenny Scovatti in the Bronx to pick up more pills.
In December 2005, Brancato and his co-conspirator, Steven Armento, allegedly drove to Scovatti?s home to steal drugs. But when neighbor and off-duty police officer Daniel Enchautegui confronted them, Armento fatally shot the officer.
The prosecution claims Brancato is just as guilty as his Armento, who had been previously convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
The actor?s attorney, however, is trying to prove Brancato is merely a drug addict, not a killer.
Brancato himself may give testimony in court Monday.
