Dilapidated schools in East Ramapo School District have parents concerned for their children's safety
Two schools in the East Ramapo School District are falling apart and Spring Valley parents say they are concerned about their children's safety.
The schools are Kakiat Elementary and Ramapo High School, which are both located on Viola Road in Spring Valley.
Parents are outraged and are blaming the district for leaving the schools in what they described as a state of neglect. The elementary school's steps are crumbling and the front entrance of the high school was closed after a piece fell off the facade.
Resident and activist Rob Kurkela tells News 12 Hudson Valley he heard that the school cut back on its maintenance budget and there is no one available to do the repairs. He says he has reached out to the district numerous times, but has always been met with silence.
East Ramapo's School Board and district representatives declined to speak to News 12 Hudson Valley.
