Doctors say the 72-year-old has been diagnosed with a "curable" form of the cancer.
Hinchey is receiving radiation before having surgery in June, which will be followed by chemotherapy.
Officials say Hinchey is expected to make a full recovery and that the congressman plans to continue working during his treatment.
