WHITE PLAINS - A White Plains neighborhood is on alert after a dog was bit by a rabid raccoon and ordered to be quarantined for six months.

The dog was bitten on Tuesday on Purdy Avenue. The raccoon has since been trapped, but the Westchester County Department of Health is notifying residents within a quarter-mile of the incident.

Anyone who suspects an animal has rabies or has been exposed to a rabid animal should contact the Department of Health.
