The Middletown Humane Society says two dogs surrendered in terrible condition in October are now ready for adoption.
The shelter was told the owner of the Malteses, died and the grandchildren couldn't take care of the dogs, which hadn't been seen by a vet in years.
The people surrendering the dogs refused to pay the normal fee, but the shelter still took the dogs, worried they would be dumped somewhere instead.
The dogs had horrible matting, a skin condition and needed dental surgery for rotten teeth.
After a few weeks of care, the dogs are healthy and ready for adoption. The shelter wants to keep them together since they've lost everything else in life.
