Dominican Sisters of Hope granted beekeeping permission in Ossining
The Dominican Sisters of Hope in Ossining has been granted permission to build beehives on its property.
The decision comes after a two-year struggle with the village, which had a long standing ordinance against beekeeping.
The sisters started showing up at village board meetings and explaining how important bees are to local fruits and vegetables.
In May, the board cleared a way to make beekeeping legal in Ossining as long as people were registered.
The sisters will start building the hives next year.
