The market hit another milestone Tuesday after the Dow topped 26,000 for the first time in its history.
After hitting the milestone during the morning, it did drift under the mark to close at 25,792.86.
The surging stock prices are coming on the heels of record-breaking corporate profits, which could get another boost from the Republican tax overhaul.
Many have credited President Donald Trump for the dramatic increase. The Dow has risen nearly 8,000 points, about 42 percent, since he was first elected. It only took seven trading days for the index to grow from 25,000 to 26,000.
“I believe in Trump because business believes in Trump, and that's the reason it's going up,” said Lucille Storch, of Woodbury.
Though confidence on Wall Street has skyrocketed to stratospheric levels, financial expert Jon Ten Haagen warns that stocks could quickly go the other way.
“It's going to slow down. It's going to have a correction. On average, we have a 5 percent correction every year,” said Haagen. “I think it's every four years, there's a 20 percent correction.”
