OSSINING - A courageous 9-year-old battling sickle cell disease helped to raise money for a children's hospital in Westchester.

Dream Shepherd was appointed Grand Marshall for the Maria Fereri Children's Hospital's 10th annual "Go the Distance Walk & Family Fun Day." According to the hospital, the event helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Dream says her wish is for other kids to get better and do everything that she can do. Despite her challenges, Dream is an active student at Claremont Elementary School in Ossining. She is also a gymnast, Girl Scout, and singer.

Experts say as many as 100,000 people in the United States battle sickle cell disease.
