Traffic on the New York State Thruway was stopped both ways for 40 minutes Friday after a car ran off the road and flipped over into the woods north of Exit 16 in Cornwall.
The driver, Derrick Boddie, of New Rochelle, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with neck, back and leg injuries. The accident took place along a 20-mile stretch between Ramapo and Harriman on the Thruway where three crashes claimed nine lives in the past six weeks. Engineers had just completed a safety survey along that part of the Thruway due to the recent crashes. Engineers reportedly found no defects when they looked at the condition of the pavement, sight distance and road curves.
The Thruway Authority believes the recent accidents were caused by human error. Friday?s accident is currently under investigation.
