E. Ramapo elementary school faces closing
East Ramapo Schools Superintendent Ira Oustatcher unveiled his recommendations to the Board of Education Wednesday to close Lime Kiln Elementary School due to declining enrollment.
Oustatcher also proposed to lease out the elementary school and apply the savings to fund other district programs.
Many parents who attended the board meeting were disturbed by the superintendent?s proposed plan and concerned for their children?s future.
"This is their education, this is the most important thing, and they're going to be cramped into schools,? says PTA President Patty Plassart, whose daughter attends the elementary school.
In addition to closing Lime Kiln Elementary, the superintendent recommended integrating the sixth grade into middle schools and adjusting the start and end times of school days.
The school board is expected vote on the superintendent?s proposed changes by the end of January.
