The East Ramapo Central School District set up a crisis hotline Friday to help students, one third of whom are of Haitian descent, deal with the psychological aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.

The hotline allows students and their families to speak with a certified English- or Creole-speaking counselor. Students may also take advantage of on-site counseling services, which have been available since Wednesday.

Pierre Rancy, supervisor of the district's English as a Second Language program, says the lack of information about missing loved ones has been nerve wrecking.

"You have some students not knowing where their parents are," he says.
