Police broke up an attempted gang assault in Spring Valley and now eight men are facing charges in the attack.

According to police, 20-year-old William Jean-Baptiste attacked another man with a machete and then tried to run him over with his car on Lake Street Wednesday. Jean-Baptiste fled the scene and moments later about a dozen men caught up with him outside the Fred Hecht apartments. The men got out of several cars with baseball bats and tried to take off when police arrived.

Police eventually tracked down and arrested eight men between the ages of 16 and 25. They recovered four bats and a box cutter. They are still looking for other weapons and suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Spring Valley Police Department at 845-356-7400.
