Elderly woman rescued from burning home in Pearl River
An elderly woman was rescued Wednesday after firefighters rushed into her burning home to save her.
The fire started around noon at the home on Buchanan Street in Pearl River. Officials say an elderly man was able to escape, but his wife was trapped inside. The assistant fire chief ducked under the heavy smoke, and a few police officers helped him pull the woman to safety.
Firefighters say the woman, Jean Yunger, was flown to Westchester Medical Center. There's no word yet on her condition. Two Orangetown police officers who also helped in the rescue were treated and released from Nyack Hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
