WHITE PLAINS - An Elmsford man has pleaded not guilty in connection with his girlfriend's death last year while he was allegedly cleaning a rifle in his parents' townhouse.

Eric Gaulin, 25, is charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. A judge unsealed his indictment Tuesday.

On Labor Day 2013, Gaulin and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Megan Bookstaver, went with another friend to Dick's Sporting Goods at the Palisades Center Mall and bought Bookstaver a rifle. That afternoon, they were at Gaulin's parents' townhouse in Tarrytown where Gaulin had other rifles on display. A shot then rang out, hitting Bookstaver in the face. Gaulin was allegedly cleaning a rifle when it happened. Bookstaver was pronounced dead at the scene after 911 was called.

Gaulin, the son of Manhattan entertainment lawyer Robert Gaulin, faces five to 15 years in prison if convicted. His attorney called the shooting a tragic accident.
