Participants poured ice cold water over themselves Saturday as part of the 10th annual ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in Yonkers.
The yearly event at the Empire City Casino serves as a reminder that the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS -- also known as Lou Gehrig's disease -- is not over.
Pat Quinn, Sr. witnessed his son's battle against the debilitating nervous system disease. Pat Quinn, Jr.'s ultimately died of the condition in 2020.
Pat Quinn, Sr. said this event was emotional because it was the 10th year of the challenge, but it also showed that it keeps awareness of ALS going forward.
The motto of the event is "Every single August until there's a cure."
