Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik pleaded guilty to accepting gifts in his corruption probe in a Bronx courtroom Friday.
Kerik pleaded guilty to a pair of misdemeanors in a deal that spared him any jail time. He was ordered to pay a total of $221,000 in fines at the hearing. The former commissioner acknowledged accepting $165,000 worth of renovations on his Bronx apartment from a company with alleged links to the mob. Before the plea deal, Kerik was facing felony bribery charges based on allegations that in exchange for the renovations he help the company seek business with the city.
The plea bargain now allows Kerik to continue his new career as a security consultant in the Middle East.
