The former police chief who admitted stealing thousands of dollars from the Tuxedo Park Police Department evaded jail time Wednesday. Robert Culhane pleaded guilty to a felony grand larceny charge in August. He admitted he stole funds donated to the village's Police Benevolent Association. The Orange County District Attorney?s office was asking the judge to sentence Culhane to six months in jail, plus five years probation.
However, when Culhane showed up at court for sentencing, the judge only gave him a $270 fine. The judge explained that the humiliation and loss of his job was punishment enough for Culhane.
