On Tuesday Con Edison set a record for peak electricity demand as Westchester residents scrambled to find ways to beat the heat.
Night brought little relief from searing temperatures. By 8 p.m., thermometers still hovered around 90. Con Ed recorded peak electricity demand of 13,103 megawatts by 5p.m., surpassing a record set last year.
Residents ventured out despite the weather, taking their children for icy treats and hitting local restaurants in a bid to cool off. Con Ed is reminding customers to use energy intensive appliances, like washers and dryers, at night to prevent power outages.
