Faith leaders denounce President Trump in Mount Vernon

<p>Faith leaders across the city of Mount Vernon came together Tuesday to collectively denounce President Donald Trump for the profane language he allegedly used last week when discussing immigrants of African and Caribbean countries.</p>

Faith leaders across the city of Mount Vernon came together Tuesday to collectively denounce President Donald Trump for the profane language he allegedly used last week when discussing immigrants of African and Caribbean countries.
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas invited the clergy members to City Hall Tuesday to speak out against the president and demand an apology.
The faith leaders said they are denouncing the president because the nation needs its leaders to bring people together, and they don't think he's doing that.
“I think it’s appalling the leader of this country would say such horrible things. We're constantly being portrayed with negative language. Our job is to unify people and bring them together,” said the Rev. Robert Williams.
The clergy also signed a petition calling on the community to come together and rise up against the hateful language they believe the president is using. They are hoping to collect 4,000 signatures by next week.
