Saturday marks one year since 16-year-old Kayla Green was stabbed and killed on a day of citywide celebration for Mount Vernon.
Her family and friends will come together Saturday night to honor her at Club 37 on South Fifth Avenue.
Green was the junior varsity cheer captain, and her family says she dreamt of being a medical professional.
A 15-year-old, who hasn't been identified because of her age, was sentenced to three to nine years in state prison.
Police say she was a cheerleader from a different team who attacked Green and her best friend, Mainece Simpson.
Simpson survived, but her mom says she is traumatized.
Green died on the way to the hospital.
Her cheer team has cheered for her this whole year, honoring her with a pink pompom on the mat during their biggest competitions.
They are scheduled to be there Saturday to honor their friend and team.
