Authorities say a family of bears was spotted today in a neighborhood in Nanuet.

State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officers responded to the scene after a mother bear and her cubs were seen roaming back and forth in the woods of Nanuet for most of the day.

DEC officers say the best-case scenario is for the mother bear and her cubs to move out of the neighborhood to a more heavily wooded area away from local residents. But barring that, they will have to be tranquilized and removed.
