A new bill on its way to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk will require that used cars for sale have working airbags.

Its been eight years since Anthony Amoros, of Pomona, lost his life in a car crash.

The 18-year-old unknowingly bought a used car without air bags, which his parents believe would have saved him.

"He hit the windshield and there was nothing coming back, so the blunt of the impact – he took it all on the head," says his father, Al Amoros.

"My son was an amazing young man who had a short life to live," says Ivette Amoros.

Since his death, the heartbroken family, alongside Rockland lawmakers crafted a bill that requires all New York dealers to sell cars with functioning airbags.

"Anthony will have saved countless lives in New York through this legislation and through this law," Ivette Amoros says.

"You can't sell a car without a seatbelt, you can't sell a car without a rearview mirror, you can't sell a car without headlights and from now on you can't sell a car without airbags," says Sen. James Skoufis.

The bill, which accelerated through the Legislature nearly unanimously, is now heading for Cuomo, who is expected to sign it.

While it won't heal the broken hearts of the Amoros family, they find comfort knowing their common sense bill will save others.

"I think Anthony, from up above, he kind off pushed it, but I'm so thankful that it's going to become law," Ivette Amoros says.

The bill only applies to dealerships and not private sellers.

Dealers who violate the law risk fines and losing their license.
