Baseball fans descended on Yankee Stadium in droves Tuesday night for the final All-Star Game in the House that Ruth Built.
Lovers of the game got a real show as the game went into extra innings, lasting late into the night. In the end, Justin Morneau slid home just in time on Michael Young's sacrifice fly in the 15th inning, giving the American League a 4-3 victory that extended its unbeaten streak to 12.Fans could not have asked for better weather to watch their all-time favorite players face off. The 79th annual All-Star Game drew fans of all teams from all over, including Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
"It?s a great event the kids will remember forever,? John Sullivan, of Briarcliff Manor said. ?It's the last time at Yankee Stadium. So we figure we'd come and check it out."
Even fans of rival teams came together in the spirit of the game and the hottest ticket in town.
Ticket prices were steep. Some just showed up and hoped to buy tickets off of anyone who had extras.
Yankee Stadium is scheduled for demolition after the Yankees move across the street to a new ballpark next season.
