A father-son dispute erupted in gunfire and ended with a standoff in Deerpark, according to police.

Investigators said 38-year-old George Babcock Jr. got into a fistfight with his father in their Godeffroy Road home Saturday. According to police, the fight escalated when Babcock Jr. fired shots at Babcock Sr., who managed to escape unharmed.

State police evacuated neighbors in case the situation got worse. Crisis negotiators were able to talk Babcock Jr. out of the home after five hours.

Babcock Jr. was arraigned over the weekend on charges, which include felony assault, and was sent to the Orange County Jail on $75,000 cash bail.
