NEW ROCHELLE - A metal fence collapsed on top of five girls during a high school track meet in New Rochelle Saturday, sending four of them to the hospital.
A gust of wind caused the large metal fence to collapse on five discus throwers as they were warming up for the New Rochelle Invitational.
Coaches and adults who were attending the event helped to lift up the fence.
Officials say the New Rochelle Fire Department and emergency crews took four of the five girls to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital with arm, knee and head injuries. News 12 has learned that the girls were treated for minor injuries and have been released.
The fifth girl was seen by a private doctor.
