Smoke and flames could be seen for miles away after a ferocious fire engulfed a warehouse in Newburgh Wednesday.
The fire started around 1 p.m. at Active Ventilation Products on Clinton Street. Eighty firefighters from six different departments struggled all afternoon to get the fire under control. Fire officials say propane tanks inside the warehouse exploded, and cardboard boxes added fuel to the fire. The roof collapsed within 20 minutes. Everything inside the business was destroyed.
About a dozen workers inside the building got out safely. Some firefighters suffered minor injuries. The owner says he did not have fire insurance. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
