SUFFERN - A fire in the basement of the Berkley Square Apartments in Suffern has left 16 families homeless.

The blaze started Tuesday evening and quickly spread through the entire building. Police and firefighters helped evacuate the apartments and everyone made it out safely.

Crews were able to get water on the fire quickly, but there was too much damage inside to allow the families back into the building on Tuesday night.

Fire investigators say they will investigate to see if the blaze is suspicious.
