First Indian American on Rockland Legislature dies
Long-time Rockland County Legislator VJ Pradhan (D) died Friday after being hospitalized for gallstones.
Pradhan came to the United States in 1973 and worked as a dentist. In 1997, he became the first Indian American to serve on the legislature representing West Nyack.
Rockland County Legislative Chairwoman Harriet Cornell says Pradhan?s passion will be missed.
"He just really meant a lot to all of us,? she says. ?He brought a lot to us, and hopefully we gave to him as well in terms of our camaraderie and affection for him."
Pradhan leaves behind a wife and son.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Source Funeral Home in West Nyack.
