Authorities say that a hiker suffered a heart attack while climbing a steep trail on Anthony's Nose in Cortlandt Manor Sunday and had to be airlifted off a trail near the Bear Mountain Bridge.
The Continental Village Fire Department says it received a call around 2 p.m. that a 49-year-old New York City man had chest pains and was unable to climb down the steep trail.
With about 150 pounds worth of equipment, several firefighters, police officers and EMTs found the man about halfway to the top of the peak. They said his location made it too difficult for first responders to carry him down.
Responders had to use the dispatch to call the helicopter due to spotty cellphone service, officials say. The helicopter took him to Westchester Medical Center.
State park police have not identified the man, but they do say he is expected to be OK.
Officials advise not traveling alone because at least someone can get help if anything goes wrong.
