On any given day outside the Westchester Barber Academy, Kevin Furman can be found handing out food, clothing and furniture to Mount Vernon's neediest and homeless people.
Furman does these acts of kindness because he knows firsthand what it is like to be homeless and hungry. He wound up living out of his truck for two years after losing his job, which left him unable to pay the rent.
Furman once said to himself that if God allowed him to come out of this position, he would give back to the community. Furman never forgot his promise and has been doing just that for the past 12 years.
