Andrew Wallace, Mount Vernon’s former mayor, had a close call on Friday after when a Jeep plowed through a bagel shop in New Rochelle.

Police say the driver of the Jeep accidentally put it in drive instead of reverse outside Bagel Zone on Main Street.

Employees and Wallace, who was inside the shop, are recovering from injuries sustained in the incident.

He said in part, "While I am still in a fair amount of pain, I will let it serve as a reminder that God still has a plan for me. For that, too, I feel extremely grateful, lucky, and blessed."
