YONKERS - Keep fireworks safety in mind during Independence Day celebrations this year. Fireworks can be harmful, or even deadly, if placed in the wrong hands.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, six people died and an estimated 8,700 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms throughout the country for fireworks-related accidents.

Unless you have a license, fireworks are illegal to buy, possess, or display in New York State.

Police say they'll gladly pick up and dispose of any illegal fireworks, firecrackers, bottle rockets or any other homemade or banned fireworks devices that you might have with no questions asked.
