Friends, family bid farewell to murder victim Deborah Burns, of Spring Valley
SPRING VALLEY - Friends, and family said a final goodbye Wednesday to a Rockland County woman who lost her life tragically on Christmas Eve.
Deborah Burns, 56, of Spring Valley, was raped and murdered only hours before Christmas Day. Her body was discovered two days later near her home on Lafayette Street.
Officials say 43-year-old homeless man Juan Perez-Coira, of Spring Valley, choked Burns to death after raping her.
The pair were reportedly friends and met voluntarily Christmas Eve.
Last week, Perez Coira pleaded not to charges of murder, rape, kidnapping and criminal sex act in connection to Burns death. He remains behind bars without bail in Rockland County Jail.
