A good Samaritan was robbed and kidnapped after trying to help a man at an Orange County gas station Tuesday.
Police say 21-year-old Derrick Clayborne of Highland Falls, was at a gas station on Route 9W in Fort Montgomery when he asked a customer for a ride. Police say their drive turned dangerous almost immediately as Clayborne allegedly began demanding money and striking the man several times in the head. Clayborne demanded the man drive him to another location in the city of Newburgh and ordered him to wait outside. However, police say when Clayborne entered the building his victim used a spare pair of keys to escape.
Clayborne is in Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail. A grand jury hearing is set for Thursday in the felony kidnapping case.
