The delegates at the Republican Convention at Hofstra University Arena on Long Island will send the gubernatorial candidates to a primary.Former Assembly Minority Leader John Faso and Massachusetts Governor William Weld were locked in a close contest for the battle in the race for governor. Faso earned more than 50 percent of the weighted vote to become the party designee. However, with 40.5 percent of the vote, Weld landed enough support to earn a spot on the ballot as well.
Some delegates are not worried about a primary saying it will bring more media attention to the Republican candidates. Others wanted a united front to battle Democratic candidate Eliot Spitzer.
