YONKERS - Despite the wintry mix, a groundbreaking ceremony was held today for a new hotel at the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers.

The former Cross County Hospital and Office Tower will be transformed into the new Hyatt Place.

Each room will feature free Wi-Fi, a 42-inch HDTV and sofa.

The Yonkers location will join 195 other Hyatt Place hotels worldwide.

Mayor Mike Spano says the city will benefit from hotel guests who spend money at the mall and nearby Empire City Casino.

The hotel is expected to be complete in about a year.
