Harriman teen allegedly thrown off stage at concert
A teen discussed his experience Thursday after he was allegedly thrown off the stage by hip-hop star Akon during a weekend concert.
The incident apparently occurred when artist Akon called 15-year-old Anthony Smith onto the stage. The star was angry because a pretzel, possibly thrown by Smith, hit him in the face. Smith said other fans were throwing food and he didn't intentionally hit Akon.
At that point, Smith claims he was tossed off stage. "Akon grabbed my hand and flipped me over his shoulders," Smith said. "And then I went like 5 to 10 feet in the air."
Smith says he landed on a woman and her 15-year-old daughter. The stunt drew cheers from the crowd, but Smith says that he needs an X-ray, has a sore neck and has been suffering from a headache since the concert. The high school sophomore says the incident has also humiliated him.
"When the security guard was pulling me they were all booing," Smith said. "And when they threw me they were pointing and laughing."
Akon has retained an attorney even though no charges have been pressed against him.
Smith says that he hasn't come to a final decision if he will file charges.
