The Hastings Police Department is looking to reduce its carbon footprint with a 2020 Tesla Model Y electric vehicle, its first fully electric vehicle.

"We're trying to go green with our fleet. We're hoping that people will see us as more friendly,” says Chief David Dosin.

The environmentally friendly vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including collision avoidance and all-wheel drive.

Dosin highlights safety as the department’s top priority. “We want to make sure that it's safe for the officers and if it's safe for the officers, we can look down the road to see where we can go with it,” says Dosin.

Hastings Police Department estimates a fuel savings of $8,500 within five years.
