Another symbol of hate was found in a school in Westchester earlier this week.
Sleepy Hollow School District officials say a member of their custodial staff discovered a swastika and a racial slur in a school bathroom at the Sleepy Hollow Middle/High School.
Sleepy Hollow Superintendent Christopher Borsari sent out a letter to parents notifying them that a member of the custodial staff discovered a swastika and a racial slur etched into a toilet paper dispenser on Monday evening.
The incident was reported to police, and the dispenser has been replaced.
Similar incidents have been reported in Pelham Middle School as well as high schools in Scarsdale, Pleasantville and Ossining in recent months.
There is a bill being introduced this legislative session in Albany that would require age appropriate lessons on hate symbols in classrooms.
One parent says they think teaching these lessons may help and was surprised to hear this happening in their town.
"I've been hearing about it everywhere else, and I didn't realize it was actually going to be hitting home. It's a quiet town, you know. It's beautiful, beautiful sites and everyone pretty much knows each other," says Taurence Hudson.
Students at the school also say they didn't expect something like this to happen at their school.
"I'm sure that whoever did that, they probably didn't mean it, they were probably joking around, our school is not really like that," says Carlos Citron a student at Sleepy Hollow.
School officials say they are investigating the incident.
