Haverstraw grandmother faces eviction
A Haverstaw grandmother who is recovering from two strokes and a broken leg is facing eviction because her grandson lives with her without proper permission.
The grandmother, 93-year-old Hannah Sadak, has lived in a Warren Knolls apartment in Haverstraw for more than 20 years, says her daughter, Mary Anne Conley.
Conley says she provided management with a doctor's note last year, saying Sadak needed an overnight aide and that her son, Alex, would be staying with her.
"I'd do what I felt was necessary to keep my mother in her home," Conley says.
Sadak was notified in April that she was violating her lease and unless her grandson moved out by this past Tuesday, eviction proceedings would begin.
A spokesperson for the owner of Warren Knolls, Related Management, issued a statement which reads, "As a federally subsidized senior property, we are subject to a number of procedures that must be meticulously followed.
Our property manager has been in contact with the tenant and her daughter for many months in order to obtain the necessary documentation, and we are hoping to resolve this matter expeditiously."
