Haverstraw Marina fire burns 5 boats, sinks 2
Authorities are investigating a fire involving multiple boats that required the efforts of eight fire departments this morning at the Haverstraw Marina.
Police say they received a call after 5 a.m. saying a blaze broke out on an 85-foot yacht. The fire spread to four other boats, two of which are believed to be sailboats that have since sunk.
Fire officials, Coast Guard officials and state and county police responded to the scene, and have placed booms in the Hudson River to control the spread of diesel fuel leaking from the yacht.
No one was on the boats at the time, and no injuries have been reported.
Officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the boats must be lifted from the water to determine the exact cause.
