Hearing held in New City goat mauling case
The owners of two dogs accused of mauling two goats to death appeared in court in Clarkstown Wednesday.
A hearing was postponed last month so Jason and Lauren Feldman could hire an attorney. Back in September, the Feldmans' dogs allegedly climbed a 9-foot fence surrounding the New City property of Marie Harrow, and killed her two goats.
Harrow says she is still haunted by the attack.
The Feldmans left court without talking to reporters. Their lawyer, William Gerard, says they are saddened about the death of the goats but do not want their dogs to be punished.
He says he, the prosecution and animal control are looking for a way to keep the dogs alive. The court was in recess for more than a half-hour as Gerard and the others negotiated in the judge's chambers, looking at alternatives.
Harrow says that while she doesn't like the idea of killing any animals, in this case she feels the dogs are too dangerous.
If a solution is not found by next week, a trial will be held on Dec. 11 to determine the dogs' fate.
