Heightened levels of mercury found
Authorities say elevated levels of mercury have been found at an old Sleepy Hollow battery factory.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation discovered the dangerous levels at a former Duracell plant on Elm Street and is expected to do further testing at properties around the site.
The Journal News reported Sunday that the state DEC began notifying local residents in late March that their properties needed to be tested.
