Highland Falls residents concerned over looming West Point cuts
Residents living near West Point are concerned over the next possible round of layoffs that may be coming to the West Point military base.
The first round of cuts eliminated 109 civilian positions at West Point. In all, 8,700 civilian positions were eliminated across 70 military installations.
Don Hale, who represents local West Point unions, says that the Department of the Army is looking at eliminating up to 35,000 jobs nationwide.
The unions say that if the Department of Defense supplants the civilian positions with civilian contractors, they are prepared to file lawsuits to stop it.
