The White Plains Highway Department is still cleaning up after Thursday's surprising autumn snowstorm.

Early weather reports called for a light snow accumulation, but once it quickly became clear it would be higher than anticipated.

"We thought we were gonna have 1-3 (inches) with rising temperatures, but Mother Nature just threw us for a loop," says Highway Superintendent Rich Stangarone.

Stangarone says the commute was "really bad," and the department's trucks also got stuck in the snow and traffic.

He says the snow fell so hard during the commute that it jammed up all the roads

With more snow in the forecast Friday, Stangarone says they will be back out to spot check all the roads and plow the sidewalks.

"It's been a long grind but we'll be out there," Stangarone says. "We'll try to keep everybody safe and just everybody have a safe commute."
