Stumbling upon money is always an unexpected joy, but discovering "found money" can actually be more science than luck.

Financial expert Jordan Goodman joined News 12's Michelle Brown in the studio to discuss how people can find undiscovered assets in their household.

Goodman says if the government owes you money and you do not collect it, then it's unclaimed. This can also happen with banks, credit unions, pensions, and other sources. He lays out how to find unclaimed assets at places such as the NY Office of Unclaimed Funds and the IRS.

However, Goodman warns to beware of unclaimed money scams. Government agencies will not call you about unclaimed money or assets. The scam is when people pretend to be the government and offer to send you unclaimed money for a fee.

The author of "Master Your Debt" also discusses how to sell a life insurance policy for cash.
